Using large brushes with water-based paint, working with abandon on heavy rice paper.
I find freedom, fluidity and honesty in this medium.
Through pure moments of absorption in the work a piece can come mysteriously to life.

This work is a way for me to engage directly with my imagination from point zero, not doing anything in regards to producing an image of the past, and staying fresh in the moment with brush and paper.

These came out of my dream about being an iridescent, translucent spider hanging from a single thread in the dark space of night. A timeless, content-less dream, so powerful that I continue to draw from it in my work.

I have always been interested in images that are subliminal, that appeal to the multiple levels of awareness. Perhaps it is connected to my work as a hypnotist. I like seeing people change. I like giving people more options than they thought they had. These figures present a backdrop, a shadow presence, a mood, or a longing; speaking to your unconscious; rather than representing something literally.

from my series which includes Piece of Mind Kids ™ / Pretty Villains ™ / Psychedelic Geishas ™ / Vegan Vampires ™

This work is inspired by my diverse background. I am Multiracial, Happa, half Japanese, European, and North African. I have been a fan of anime and manga for decades.

These images emerged out of work with high risk youth, in the probation and prison systems, and first nation reservations. I view ALL youth as high risk, no matter what their social or economic background.

I also view them as the salvation of our society and planet.

Bright and lively pastel and pencil portraits that represent the spirit and character of these kids. It reminds me of a time when I was perhaps a little more high risk than I am now .
